The minister of tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga said that the healing process has achieved much ground and things are returning rapidly back to normal. All precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the tourists in all parts of the country. He also added that none of the tourists’ sites weren’t affected and it remains ready to welcome visitors. August is the ideal time to visit Sri Lanka as it is the shoulder season for festivities such as the Kandy Perahera and pageants held through the country. East Coast is the best during the month of August as the monsoon weather is expected in the South coast.
John Amaratunga further added that the Sri Lanka Tourism will be concentrating on the Indian market than any other market as this is our best option. Sri Lanka would be the best place to travel to avoid the height of summer in India which runs till August, while enjoying the holiday, he suggested in the meantime.
‘The Gathering’, where hundreds of wild elephants can be found around the ancient reservoir in Minneriya National Park each year which is known to be the largest grouping of wild Asia elephants in the world, can be witnessed in August. Therefore, travelling to Sri Lanka in August is safe as it is highly secured and the safety of tourist is assured and offers the best rates.
