Global travelers to the country who are comforted by assurances by the Tri-forces and political leadership are starting to show renewed confidence which is denoted in steady stream of tourists who are trickling in, despite the tragic setbacks the country has experienced.
The interest from travel writers and bloggers who wish to explore, photograph and promote this picturesque destination have amplified this initiative.
As the intention of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is to continue to promote Sri Lanka as a key destination for the global travel community particularly in markets like USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Australia, India, France and Ukraine, the Sri Lanka Promotion Bureau is hosting renowned international social media influencers who arrived in the country on the 7th of May 2019 and will be staying here till the 19th of May.
The crew includes Jerre Stead from USA, Pema Chinyam from USA, Ayumi Amemiya from Japan, Glib Pyatin and Kateryna Birska from Ukraine, Steven Yalowitz from USA, Diana Bancale from Italy.
The itinerary has been meticulously planned and mapped out for the influencers and writers so that lesser known attractions of the country are featured. They will tour from Jaffna, Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya before arriving to Colombo and departing thereafter. The Tourism Promotion Bureau expects each of them to post daily updates, photographs, posts, articles in multiple platforms such as popular networking sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and YouTube. It estimates that the total reach would amass over 1,600,000.
The visiting Blogger program was a special program aimed at foreign travel journalists including MT Media representing Ukraine, ICHI Media representing Malaysia, LSD Magazine, and Vanity Fair’Espresso Rai and Terreincognite representing Italy. They were given a tour of Ella, Katharagama, Yala, Galle, Hikkaduwa, Ambalangoda, Bentota and Kandy.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Kishu Gomas is hopeful Sri Lanka will collectively bounce back. The country has recorded 1700 tourist arrivals per day according to the SLTPB, although an immediate steep decline of 60-70% of tourist arrivals after the Easter Sunday Attack.
He also went on to thank the team of bloggers for voluntarily coming forward to report the prevailing security situation of the country and redirect attention on the undisturbed tourism value proposition. He also invites other global tourism industry stakeholders to help Sri Lanka with similar activities in order to revive and rebuild the preferred tourism brand 2019, as ranked by many independent organizations,” he further said.
