This 104 hectares forest reserve was initially known as Uda Wasala Watta meaning the ‘Garden above the Palace’ during the era of King Panditha Parakramabahu and King Wickramabahu.
In 1938 the forest was declared a forest reserve and later made in to a sanctuary. It’s a perfect place for birdwatchers and the nature lovers alike and ideal for travellers searching for activities to do within the Kandy City.
Guided tours and detailed map can be arranged for a price at the ticket office. For the hikers, park offers 2 main paths and you will come across number of other smaller foot paths, however be careful as wild animals can be found lurking about at all times.
