Situated right next to Pasikuda Beach, Kalkudah Beach has almost identical features. This pristine white sand beach, untouched by modernity offers pure relaxation and picture postcard views. The combined area of Kalkudah and Passikudah was declared as a National Holiday Resort in 1973.
The knee deep shallow waters stretching for about a kilometer in to the sea, protected by the offshore reef, Kalkudah creates a perfect site for swimming, sun bathing, windsurfing and water skiing along with many other water activities that can be enjoyed with the whole family.
Kalkudah Bay is 2 km long wide stretch of beach, located 32 km north of Batticaloa, similar to Pasikudah, Kalkudah has been recovering from years of being war torn and tsunami impairment. However the development has been slower than Pasikuda making the Kalkudah beach mostly deserted with the exception of odd fisherman’s’ boat.
The main access point to Kalkudah is from Batticaloa, which is accessible from all the major cities. From Batticaloa there is another bus journey for about 30 minutes which will take you to Valachchenai town, about 2km away from Kalkudah where you will be able to grab a tuk tuk ride to the accommodation.
