Kosgoda is situated approximately 8km drive from Bentota and is home to a network based turtle hatchery and turtle watching venture set up by the Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) in correspondence with the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka.Out of 7 7 species of marine turtles in existence, Sri Lanka is visited by five of them.
Along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is one of 18 turtle hatcheries and the center functions mainly as a hatchery and makes huge effort to increase the rate of hatching and the survival of baby turtles in their initial stages. Sick and injured adults are also treated and sent back into the ocean by the care center. Volunteer programs for locals and international visitors are also run by the care center. It is a great place to learn and love nature which having fun at the same time. You get the first-hand experience of feeding the sea turtles of various species in the different stages of their lives and should definitely be visited on your holiday to Sri Lanka.
