This palm-shaded historic town located in northernmost region of the Island, is home to majority of Tamil people in Sri Lanka. Jaffna peninsula was made in to a colony by the Portuguese in 1619 and by British in 1796 in time, the town again underwent so much desolation during the rebel Tamil Tigers Terrorist control from 1986 to 2008.
The cheapest way to travel to Jaffna is by Intercity/express train takes about for 7 hours or Night train which will take about 9 hours. While the quickest way to get there is by taxi which will take about 5 ½ hours and we recommend you to get few quotes before selecting a taxi company.
